Society Hill in Philadelphia is known for its charming brick row homes, cobblestone streets and historic buildings. Stamper Square is a mixed-use development encompassing a five-star luxury hotel with 150 rooms, 80 condos, retail shops, and a restaurant. It incorporates the materials and spirit of Society Hill, reinterpreting these elements into a modern design, with proportions intended to mimic the common, irregular forms of neighborhood blocks. The centerpiece of the project is a new public space, landscaped and filled with artwork and sculptures, extending the network of city greenways to the Delaware River.
The project uses sustainable materials and building practices to attain LEED certification. Green roofs, underground storm-water retention tanks, and rainwater harvesting for gray water are some of the energy-saving features. Daylight harvesting technologies and sun-control devices on balconies and facades will help transform terraces into comfortable outdoor rooms.
